The Housing Problem – A Way Against Capitalism

Locally, in Malta, we are undergoing a severe problem when it comes to homelessness and social housing, or as they are referred to in the UK, as ‘Council estates’.

The Labour government is indeed trying, but hardly so to find plots to build as ‘Council Estates’. In the meantime, the capitalists are finding ample of space to use as plots to build apartment blocks all over the place. We have also seen, and have been officially reported that, the capitalists are destroying archaeological sites to pave the way for a jungleof concrete.

However, in this article I will not delve about archeological endevours. However, I must delve into the problem of social housing that the Maltese are going through, or rather have been going through for the last decade or so, – Without actually mentioning all its bureaucracy.

I believe that all those who are planning and already have the necessary permits to build a particular block of apartments must give at least a minimum of one apartment to the government to use it for social housing applicants. This, the businessman/ capitalist will have no say whatsoever in the material, even so, that the block of apartments or plot was built at his expense.

Of course, by doing so, the Capitalist would refuse, or even threaten not to vote for the current party in the government. However, the capitalist would have no other option, as the consequence would be that he would not be given any other opportunity to develop any plot whatsoever under any given circumstance.

The apartment would be given for free as a gift for the government to use for social housingapplicants. By doing this the Capitalist would be contributing a small fraction to society, not only exploiting workers for his capital.
